Come Into the Light

The saying, "Whose your daddy" became very popular years ago. Romans 6:16a says that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slave.  In essence, mankind has a choice as to whether they will allow God or satan to be the Lord of the their life.

Acts 2:17

"And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophecy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams."

Do you realize that life was given to all men when the Spirit of God was poured out? The Scriptures says that the Spirit was poured out on all flesh, not just Jews or the religious folk of Jesus' day.  But why does the next verse say, "And on MY menservants and on MY maidservants I will pour out of My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. If we are not careful we assume that verses 17 and 18 are saying the exact same thing, but they are not.  Verse 17 lets us know that all men were given the right to life again.  What do I mean when I say they were given life again?  When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, all men died spiritually even though they had not yet been born.  Why? Because all of mankind was in Adam (his seed), so his sin was passed on to us. The Bible says that God gave living things the power to reproduce after its kind (Genesis 1:22-28).  That life came as a result of God breathing into us the breath of life.  He was breathing His Spirit into us. When we reproduce, God's Spirit gives life to our offspring enabling them to become living being. Unfortunately, because of Adam's sin, humankind reproduced unto death. We became the walking dead.  Romans 6:23a tells us that the wages of sin is death.  There is always going to be a penalty for sin.  Something or someone has to die. When someone else pays for your sin, they are made a scapegoat.  Your sin is transferred to them.  This is called grace.  God's grace allowed us to go free while another paid for our wrongdoing.  After the fall, man lost his covering and realized that he was naked. God used the skin from an animal to cover Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21).  This covering was His grace. There can be no remission (forgiveness) without the shedding of blood (Hebrew 9:22).

John 3:16 says that "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."  It is not until we choose life (allow Jesus to be Lord) that we become a child of God.  We hear people say all the time that we are all children of God.  That is simply not true.  We are all His creation, but it is not until we accept the Lord Jesus that we become His children.  This is evident in Scripture when Jesus rebuked the religious leaders for their unbelief. He told them that they could not receive His words because they were of their father the devil.  Read John 8:42-44.

Based on Acts 2:17, we were given a second chance to have life. When the Spirit was poured out they prophesied (proclaimed Truth).  They are now able to proclaim God's Truth because they have been born again and they are able to see.  But many choose to remain in darkness.  Why? God's Word is Truth and light.  The light exposes sin.  If you are comfortable living in sin, you run away from the light.  Jesus said in John 3:19-21, that men loved darkness because their deeds were evil. "For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed (John 3:20). You are not going to hell just because Adam sinned. You will go to hell because you choose death instead of life. Hebrew 2:9 says that Jesus tasted death for all everyone.  He died so that we would not have to.  He restored unto us what Adam allowed the enemy to steal-our freedom to choose.  After the fall of man, we were automatically born in to sin at birth.  Christ became the second Adam and restored us so that we no longer have to be slaves of sin.  It is all a matter of choice!

Acts 2:18 says that God's bondservants will prophecy (proclaim His Truth).  Who are His bondservants?  Those of us who choose to let the Lord be our master. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.  So who is your daddy?  If it's not Christ, then it is time to come into the Light. A wise man chooses life!
